About The Dood. #
The Dood Behind the Router #
I’m the NetworkDood, tying together the packets of the networking world like a good rug ties together a room. My journey began innocently enough—hiding Wolfenstein 3D executables on my grandmother’s computer (she never found them, thankfully, or this whole network odyssey might have been over before it started).
From those humble beginnings, I’ve traversed quite the network path:
- Served in the military as a Computers, Network, Cryptography and Switching specialist (way more intense than bowling league)
- Managed classified ground station operations where “we can’t talk about it” was the standard response (my cover story was always “Base Rabbit Population Control”)
- Architected network design for over 150,000 users (that’s a lot of connections, man)
- Maintained satellite points of presence in Afghanistan (decided getting shot at wasn’t my scene)
- Rolled through positions at Motorola Solutions and beyond
- Spent the last 11 years at my current company, wearing many hats:
- Network Architect
- DevOps Staff Engineer
- Cloud Architect
- Staff Engineer over Networking (the rug that ties the whole infrastructure together)
Why I’m Doing This, Man #
This site exists because sometimes you need to be the Dood you wish to see in the world.
Like many engineers, I’ve found myself in professional situations that felt about as comfortable as walking around in my bathrobe at a formal event. That impostor syndrome thing? Yeah, I’ve been there—trying to abide while feeling like I’m out of my element.
NetworkDood is my way of saying, “This aggression will not stand, man.” I’m here to share knowledge, empower fellow engineers, and create a space where we can all feel a little less like impostors. Because mastering these topics isn’t just about knowing them—it’s about being able to teach them to others.
What’s in the Bowling Bag #
Here at NetworkDood, you’ll find:
- No-nonsense tutorials that cut through the technical haze like a good White Russian cuts through the fog
- Deep dives into Arista networking that would impress even the most particular network enthusiasts
- CI/CD pipeline guides that help you automate like nobody’s business
- Real-world war stories and solutions from someone who’s been in the trenches
- Resources to help you feel confident in your abilities, even when the technical world gets very complex and very uncool
Every morning I wake up, tie my bathrobe, and learn something new about the ever-changing world of networking. NetworkDood is where those daily discoveries become shared wisdom.
The NetworkDood Philosophy #
I believe good network design is like bowling: respect the lanes, follow proper etiquette, and don’t roll on Shabbos. Whether you’re troubleshooting complex routing protocols or automating deployments across distributed environments, remember that careful planning and proper execution are what separate the amateurs from the professionals. A well-designed network brings harmony to chaos—just like a good rug ties the room together.
